The UK Dzogchen Community

We are the Community of Dzogchen practitioners based in the United Kingdom. Our teacher, Chogyal Namkhai Norbu first visited London in 1979 which is when our UK Community was founded. Since that time, Rinpoche has visited the UK on many occasions to give teachings and the Community here has grown steadily over the years. In 1998, Rinpoche personally inaugurated our Retreat Centre in Wales, naming it ‘Kunsel Ling’: ‘The Place of Total Luminosity.’  Most Dzogchen Community activities take place in London or at Kunselling, but there are also regional events organized throughout the United Kingdom, including Scotland and Ireland.

The underlying principals of the Community are those of collaboration, mutual respect and collective responsibility in developing our experience and deepening our understanding of the Dzogchen teachings. We also recognize that we share and carry the responsibility for ensuring that this precious tradition remains alive for future generations to come. The active life of the Community is only made possible by the work and voluntary help of all its members. As Rinpoche always reminds us, to have a connection with the Dzogchen teachings implies that there has always been a specific cause or connection in our past. In this sense, nobody is ever ‘new’ to the Dzogchen teachings or to the Community!

In recent years, the UK community has also established partner organizations with which it works closely, namely 'The Shung Shung Institute UK: The London School of Tibetan Studies' and 'ASIA UK'.
