The Dzogchen Community U.K. has an annual programme of events which is published in its Events Diary. Most events take place at Kunselling.  Some events are especially suitable for newcomers to the Dzogchen teachings.

Kunselling has hosted a number of memorable retreats and courses over the last few years.  These include Santi Maha Sangha courses led by Jim Valby and Costantino Albini; Vajra Dance courses led by Prima Mai, Stoffelina Verdonk and Cindy Faulkner; Yantra Yoga instruction led by Laura Evangelisti and John Renshaw, talks on Shang Shung by Oliver Leick as well as other events including creative writing workshops and Open Days.

Events also include Karma yoga which means that we work collectively together at Kunselling to maintain and sustain our property.  The week long karma yoga periods take place three times a year in the Spring, Summer and Autumn.

Group Events return to top

This programme contains a range of different types of events, which are organised by the Dzogchen Community U.K. Most of them are scheduled to take place at Kunselling, but there are occasional exceptions to this rule. Those events which are especially suitable for beginners, for those who are new to the Dzogchen teachings or for members of the public are indicated as such.

Brief explanations of the nature of the principal events, such as Yantra Yoga and the Vajra Dance are covered elsewhere.

It is strongly recommended that anyone who has a genuine interest in following and participating in the Dzogchen teachings attend a teaching retreat with Chögyal Namkhai Norbu, or at least participate in one of the worldwide transmission days. This is because a direct transmission of knowledge from the Master is an essential and indispensable part of the Dzogchen tradition.

Practices for New People return to top

Amely Becker is the person you should contact first if you are new to our community and want to find out more. If you are interested in doing some introductory practices such as Rushen or Semzin then please note forthcoming practice weekends as well as the Worldwide Guruyoga Transmission This takes place by video and is co-ordinated by Maciek Sikora.

Worldwide Transmissions

The World Wide Transmissions (from the International Gakyil)

Newcomers who want to participate at a World Wide Transmission should be seriously interested in the Dzogchen Teachings, which are transmitted by our Teacher Chögyal Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche and practised in our worldwide Dzogchen Community. New participants at a World Wide Transmission should try to receive Teachings from Chögyal Namkhai Norbu in the future. After having received the Transmission, they should also try to train and collaborate with the Sangha of the International Dzogchen Community of Chögyal Namkhai Norbu.

Originally Rinpoche had this idea of a "Transmission on Distance" because he wanted to help people in difficult situations who could not travel at that time to meet the Teacher. The Transmission should enable them to practice the Dzogchen Teachings transmitted by him without being in his direct physical presence.

In order to learn the appropriate mantras, mudras, and melodies correctly, it is important to hear an explanation from a knowledgeable student of Chögyal Namkhai Norbu well in advance of the event.

Santi Maha Sangha return to top

In order to ensure the continuation of the transmission and lineage of the Dzogchen tradition, Chögyal Namkhai Norbu initiated a training programme in the early 90’s for those students wishing to deepen their knowledge of the teaching and also for those who wishing to teach in the future.  The Base Level training is open and indeed recommended to all individuals who are interested in having a more precise knowledge with regards to Dzogchen and the paths of Sutra and Tantra.  Encompassing 10 levels in all, with examinations at each stage, this programme offers a complete training in the Dzogchen tradition.  Some students are already accredited teachers of the Base and First Level Training.

Vajra Dance return to top

In the Dzogchen teachings, sound and movement are very important because they are the means to integrate oneself into the state of contemplation.  The Vajra Dance is principally a means to harmonise the energy of the individual.  If one has a more profound knowledge of the meaning of the Dance, it becomes a method for integrating the three experiences of body, voice and mind into knowledge of the state of contemplation.  This integration is one of the most important aims of a Dzogchen practitioner.  The Vajra Dance is practised on a Mandala which represents the correspondence between the internal dimension of the individual and the outer dimension of the world. Click here to find out more about the Vajra Dance and click here to watch video of Vajra Dance.

The Dances in London

There is regular practice on alternative Saturdays. We look forward to dancing with as many people as possible who have received these precious teachings. It doesn't matter if you're a bit rusty, there will always be someone dancing who knows the movements well. Contact Yvonne Zuiker.

The Dances in Cambridgeshire

Vajra Dance practice is still taking place every Sunday in Ashdon Village Hall on the Essex/Cambridgeshire border. All dancers welcome! Contact Peter and Cindy.

Yantra Yoga return to top

Yantra Yoga is a form of physical yoga which helps us to coordinate our body, energy and mind as a basis for Dzogchen practice. If you are interested in attending classes they are held in London by John Renshaw please get in touch with him.
